When Should You Seek Emergency Dental Care?

You should contact us urgently if you have severe or persistent tooth pain, a tooth that has been knocked out or badly chipped, swelling in your mouth or face, or bleeding that will not stop. Prompt attention can make a real difference to the outcome.

If you are unsure whether your situation is an emergency, please get in touch and our team will be happy to advise you on the best next steps.

Please contact our practice straight away so we can assess your situation and arrange to see you as soon as possible. If you have a knocked-out tooth, try to keep it moist by placing it in milk or holding it inside your cheek until we can see you.

Common dental emergencies include severe toothache, a knocked-out or loose tooth, a broken filling or crown, or an injury to the mouth or gums. If you are in significant pain or discomfort, please get in touch so we can help.

We understand that dental problems can be urgent, so we do our best to accommodate patients with emergencies as quickly as possible. Please call us and our team will do everything they can to arrange a suitable appointment.

Over-the-counter pain relief taken as directed can help ease discomfort while you wait to be seen. Avoiding very hot, cold or hard foods and rinsing gently with warm salt water may also help until we can assess you properly.

If possible, try to find the tooth and pick it up by the crown rather than the root. Rinse it gently if dirty, then try to place it back in the socket or store it in milk, and contact us immediately, as quick action gives the best chance of saving the tooth.

Yes, we understand that dental visits can feel worrying, especially during an emergency. Our team will take extra care to explain everything clearly and support you so you feel as comfortable as possible.

If you experience a dental emergency outside our normal opening hours, please contact us and follow the guidance on our voicemail or website for advice on what to do next until we can see you.
