Sometimes a tooth cannot be saved due to severe decay, infection, gum disease or crowding, and needs to be removed. We take a gentle, considerate approach to extractions and minor oral surgery.
Before recommending an extraction, your dentist will always discuss whether the tooth can realistically be saved through other treatment. Where removal is the best option, the procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic, and we will talk you through what to expect and how to care for the area afterwards.
Some extractions, such as impacted wisdom teeth, are more complex and may be referred to one of our colleagues with experience in oral surgery. Aftercare advice is provided to support healing and reduce the risk of complications.
Is having a tooth extracted painful?

What happens after an extraction?

Will I need to replace the extracted tooth?
This depends on the tooth and your individual circumstances. Your dentist can discuss options such as a bridge, denture or implant if replacement is appropriate for you.
