Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT)
Guided Biofilm Therapy, or GBT, is a modern approach to professional teeth cleaning that uses air, water and fine powder to gently remove plaque, biofilm and surface staining.
The process begins with a disclosing solution that highlights areas of biofilm, allowing your hygienist to target these areas precisely. An air-polishing device is then used to gently remove soft deposits and staining, followed by fine scaling where needed to remove any remaining hardened deposits.
Many patients find GBT more comfortable than traditional scaling alone, and it is suitable for most patients, including those with sensitive teeth or gums, orthodontic appliances or implants.
Is Guided Biofilm Therapy suitable for everyone?
GBT is suitable for most patients, including those with sensitive teeth, dental implants or orthodontic appliances. Your hygienist can confirm whether it is right for you.
Is GBT more comfortable than traditional cleaning?
Many patients find the air-polishing technique used in GBT gentler than traditional scaling, though your hygienist will use whichever combination of techniques suits your needs.
How often should I have GBT treatment?
This depends on your individual oral health. Your hygienist will recommend a suitable interval based on your needs at your appointment.
