Your Examination

A routine examination is about far more than just checking for decay. It is an opportunity for your dentist to assess your overall oral health and catch any developing issues early.

During your examination, your dentist will check your teeth, gums and soft tissues, and may take x-rays where appropriate to see areas not visible to the naked eye. They will also ask about any changes since your last visit, such as sensitivity, discomfort or concerns you may have noticed.

Your examination is also a chance to discuss any treatment you may need or want, ask questions, and receive personalised advice on looking after your teeth and gums at home. We aim to make every visit relaxed, unhurried and informative.

A routine examination usually takes around 20 to 30 minutes, though this can vary depending on your individual needs.

Not necessarily. Your dentist will advise when x-rays are appropriate based on your oral health and how long it has been since your last set.

You do not need to wait until your next scheduled visit. Please contact the practice if you have any concerns and we will arrange to see you.
